Wonder-ful : Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned 5-Inch Wonder Skillet

This is my 2nd lodge logic product (first being a 12" skillet) and I love it. It just the right size for bread and eggs and for pan frying small quantities. The only minor hassle I see is during cleanup when food in the corners does not come off easily.

A versatile little pot! : Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned Cast-Iron 14-Ounce Melting Pot

I have been using a lodge logic skillet and 5 quart pot and love them. However, I live by myself and eggs are my main source of protein. I love soft-poached eggs and it was bothering me every morning and night when I boiled two inches of water in the 5 quart pot because it was so wasteful of water, natural gas, and vegetable oil. So I took a chance and ordered this to poach my eggs.

I am not disappointed. It only takes a few minutes for the water to boil and a minute later I am eating, as opposed to the length of time it took before, about four times the time to boiling. Not only that, but after the eggs come out I drop in a broth cube and have some "egg drop" soup before I eat my eggs. I plan on using it to make a single serving eggnog (I drink the good kind that risks salmonella - but it's worth it - completely different from the carton in the dairy section!)

I do have to say that the bottom is not wide enough to intercept direct flame from a regular gas burner - no doubt if it was the time to boiling would be cut even further. But I am still saving 3/4 of the gas and water, which is no longer dumped down the drain since it is the right amount for a cup of broth.

I think I also like the flexibility of cast iron. If I suddenly have a whim I can put it on the grill or over a wood based campfire. My non-cast iron has been retired.

Outstanding, dont let the low price fool you! : Lodge Logic 13-1/4-Inch Pre-Seasoned Skillet

I own three pieces of cast iron cookware, and this item is one of them... and among my favorite cooking implements, period. In fact, I use this skillet most of all, and it doesn't even have a place in a cabinet! I keep it on the stove permanently, for that is how often I use it.

Beware that cast iron is not a quickie-cooking component (it takes time for the iron to heat, and it takes experience to gauge the iron's "perfect temperature" for sensitive dishes), but for dishes requiring steady, even heat and for cooks who require durable cookware with easy clean-up, cast iron CANNOT be beat!

This skillet is going to last forever. Its care is easy: I scrub it with hot water only, and dry it with an old rag and apply a thin layer of vegetable oil while the iron is still hot... a year and a half later, it's still rust-free and delivering the reliable service I have come to expect and admire. No scratches interfere with its performance, as is the case with my allegedly-long-lasting Wearever nonstick cookware set (what a waste of money THAT was!). Heck, I even use my cast-iron skillet for CREPES, and that's saying something! Despite the pan's weight, it's an immeasurably better nonstick crepe-cooker than teflon. In fact, I use my cast iron cookware for everything from french fries to spaghetti sauce to eggs and bacon to french toast! It's a dependable griddle, skillet, grill, and pot, and it goes right from the stovetop and into the oven for maximum versatility.

I am an avid home-chef, and I can say without exception that my cast-iron cookware is the best kitchen investment I've ever made.

This 3 Qt enamel covered casserole is great for cooking, marinating, refrigeration and freezing. The color porcelain enamel on cast iron can be used on gas, electric, ceramic and induction cooktops, as well as in the oven. Not recommended for use on outdoor grills or over open outdoor flames. I own a nearly identical casserole from Le Creuset and this one from Lodge is nearly indistinguishable. More angular but equally beautiful.

It's important to understand that a casserole is very different from a Dutch oven. It tends to be much shallower, and is more of a braising pan or a roasting pan. Their functions are not typically interchangeable and it would often be a mistake to use a casserole in lieu of a Dutch oven.

This product line from Lodge is simply a great value. Le Creuset should be looking over its shoulder.

Pretty good pan. A lot easier to maintain and keep clean than a traditional cast iron pan. The "white enamel" style fry pans are more non-stick than this with liquid items like eggs. The "satin enamel" finish in this one, which is a rough cast iron type finish with a dark gray enamel coating, tends to stick less on solid items like steak and bacon.

So you may use a little more fat in this pan than in one of the ones using a smooth bottom white enamel style, which all of the other Lodge pans use.

This type of finish is also going to be a lot harder to scratch or scrape with tools, and wont show a scratch as much.

If you're going to cook cornbread and scrambled eggs 95% of the time...I might consider one of the white smooth enamel bottom. If you're going to sear a lot of meats and dont mind using a bit of fat with your cornbread or eggs, this will work great and you cant beat the price.
